Trishca ChowChow Kennels
are famous
for dogs with appealing personality, soundness and beauty.
ESTABLISHED 1994
At the ChowChow Non-Championship Show in
1994, my wife Annelie and I arrived just as the show finished. We enquired about buying a
puppy but all the breeders had waiting lists. We resorted to a list of breeders and phoned
them one by one. One of the breeders had a puppy due to a cancellation. We took this blue
puppy and although it took some time for him (and us) he developed into a show stopper.
Duncan later went on to qualify for Junior Dog of the Year in 1995, Dogmor Dog of the Year
1996 and was crowned as Chow of the Year for 1996, 1997 and 1998. He was nominated as one
of the best stud dogs of the 90's and is still in splendid form.
Commander was first mated to Nushca a beautiful
red bitch that we also acquired in 1994. She was also from an excellent blood line. The
first puppies arrived in 1997. We had two litters that year and we decided to keep a bitch
from one of the litters. This bitch was later exported to Israel.
To get some diversity in the bloodlines, we bought
another dog named Chummy in 1995. He qualified as Dogmore Dog of the Year in 1997.
Of the offspring of our Chow-Chows, Joshua, a
black dog, is probably the most famous. He won the ChowChow Championships in
1999 and also took the title of Natal Utility Dog. Another successful descendant is
Stallone. He was Chow of the year 1999, Best Puppy and Best Junior.
Of the bitches, Mischiff excelled by winning in
her 1st championship show a CC, Best Junior, R.Bob and 4th in the
group. In 1998 we bred another dog named Rusty who won Best Puppy in show at the
ChowChow Championships in 1999
.
Our next big acquisition was in 1997 when we
imported a dog named Billy from Canada. Billy also became a champion and won R.BIS at
Bloemfontein Non-Championship Show in 1998 under very serious competition.
We love our Chows and will be involved in the
preservation and of the breed for as long as possibly can.
Our newest addition to the
kennel is:
Trishca Chinesesezar - 5 Months
Sire : Ch. Sevenacres Trishca Gentle Bil of Trishca. (H.D. 0:1)
Dam : Trishca Mischiff. (H.D. 0:0)
Breeding
Program
Our aim is to breed
responsibly. All our Chows are x-rayed and certified. We believe in strong good
built,
healthy dogs but not overdone faces. We do our very best to stay away from genetic
problems.
We have a variety of colors to chose from: such as
Red, Blue, Black and Cinnamon.
At this point in time, we dont do too much
line breeding. We work very hard to keep our lines clean. We still import puppies now and
then to improve our kennel. We are very selective in the various bloodlines available.
We breed Champion Sire puppies for:
Puppies are KUSA Registered, Inoculated, De-wormed and sold with
Vet health certificates and at an affordable price.
Here is some of the benefits and disadvantages to consider before buying a Chow-Chow
puppy. Purchase a puppy because you love the breed and not because you like dogs or the
fluffy puppy looks adorable. Dont let the puppy steal your heart and you can't cope
with the dog afterwards. Remember if you give enough attention to your puppy, it will be a
pleasure for the rest of it's life.
BENEFITS
OF THE CHOW-CHOWChows are very clean dogs.
Chows are good guard dogs (do not buy a chow as a
guard dog, or trained it as a guard dog, he will instinctively protect his
loved ones.).
They do not mess in their sleeping quarters or the whole
garden.
They are adaptable to both city and country life.
They can be content living the lounge-lizard life with
minimal activity and exercise.
Chows arent noisy dogs that barks all day and
night.
Chows have a very good memory.
The Chow is a one-man dog but, unless provoked, be friendly
towards others.
They are intelligent and can learn commands and easy to
"house train".
Chows does not pick fights with other breeds.
DISADVANTAGES
- They needed to be groomed at least ones a week. Daily combing will also keep his coat in
good condition.
- Chows does need little exercise from time to time - such as walking on a lead in
the park.
- Never kennel Chows of the same sex together. Once two dogs have had a fight they
will never forget it.
- They are quite capable to getting the upper hand specially when no attention is given.
- The breed has a poor peripheral vision and doesnt necessarily see well from above,
beside and behind. Always approach the dog from the front.
- If provoked, the Chow will fight to the end.
- They do get eczema sometimes.
- Chows does get Entropian. That is when the eyelid turns in. It can be rectify by
surgery. This can be prevented with selective breeding.
- Puppies can also be born with over shots. (Buyers must be very careful for this)
- Be careful for too much loose skin on the head. This can be rectified with surgery.
- Chows are double coated and loose their coat once a year. Bitches also loose their
coat after whelping.
- Because of their short muzzle they do snore while sleeping.
