7 January 2003

We were blessed with an unexpected large litter of 9 kittens on 7 January 2003. Fortunately at home that day, I watched in amazement as the one kitten after the other arrived. A quick trip to the vet after #3 to stitch up a tail (chewed mistaken for the cord) and another trip to the vet after #7 to stock up on Kittymilk kept me running.  Thais had me worried for a moment when she struggled to deliver #6's afterbirth, and I was stunned when it arrived: it kicked! Twins from the same placenta ! Congratulating her, I stoked over her belly and felt a distinctive kick. There were more to follow. I waited patiently and fed Thais some egg flip. When #8 arrived I was sure that it was the last one. Worried, I called co-owner Illse and summoned help. I cleaned the sheets again just to return in time to see the 9th one being born. This was the beginning of the process of rotating and feeding. We sadly lost the first born little girl when she was 48 hours old, but the rest are alive and well.

Here they are - 1 week old:

# 1 - Thandi - Died after 48 hours

#2 - Einstein - Born in first gear and still going

#3 - Margie (the one with the "tail")

# 4 - Stevie - similar to Margie, just smaller

 # 5 - Lyca - Illse's favourite

# 6 - Maria - First of the twins - Typically Callas, walking over everyone since day 1

# 7 - Rene - Second twin and the smallest in the litter

# 6 and # 7 - The Twins

# 8 - Ms Johanson (Obviously Johan's Favourite)

And # 9 - J-Lo
