Laying side by side, the picture of feline contentment, in their carrier, ready for their trip to Italy, home of pasta, Ferrari and the mafia, are Imoya's Martina (Calico Devon Rex) and Imoya's Boris (an exquisite Seal Silver Mink bicolor Devon Rex), litter brother and sister from Big Blue's Thais of Beautiful Thing and CH Copperfield's Powerplay of Avante Garde. These two kittens are soon to reside with two different breeders in Rome, Italy. A last glance, a goodbye kiss, and off they go on their international adventure - new places to see, new people to meet. But behind the scenes are exhausted humans and the tale of a deathbed wish: Phone calls, e-mails and visits to registrars and embassies with registration papers, vet certificates and permits where just some of the activity at Imoya Devon Rex Cattery in Pretoria recently, preceding the kittens' departure. The resident humans realised that exporting a cat or cats as in this instance calls for months of careful bargaining, planning and organising. AND patience, plenty of patience. (A sense of humour could also come in handy.) These characteristics also come in very useful if you show - especially if you show such an exquisite beauties as Big Blue's Thias of Beautiful Thing - mother of the famed internationally traveling kittens Martina and Boris. Thais was initially imported from Sweden to Netherland, where her then owner sadly died. Thais, and her half sister, Big Blue's Manon of Beautiful Thing were then exported to South Africa to the owner's sister to be bred with, as was his last wishes. Mother Thais, will soon grace the show rings of South Africa with her beautiful Si-Rex sister, Manon at her side, whilst her kittens will enter the European show halls and fulfill a legacy. |
