supports ... The Collie Club of South AfricaThe Collie Club of South Africa was founded over 50 years ago and is affiliated to the Kennel Union of Southern Africa. We are committed to promoting the Collie Breeds as well as all aspects of dogdom. We hold Obedience and Agility classes at Goldfields Kennel Club, Gillooly's Farm in Bedfordview on Saturdays. We can also arrange to introduce dogs to the sports of Agility, Dog Jumping and Flyball. All breeds of dogs are welcome at these classes. Handling classes to familiarise new owners with the intricacies of Breed showing are also held. The Club holds two open and one Championship Show per year, where there are competitions in Breed (beauty), Obedience, Dog Jumping and Agility. There are four different Collie Breeds : Bearded Collie Breeds:
Border CollieThis highly intelligent dog has an inborn instinct to work and respond readily and eagerly to training. He needs lots of exercise , thrives on company and will participate in any activity. He is dedicated to serving man, but is the type of dog that needs to work to be happy and is not content to sit at home all day. Black and white has been the most popular colour, but tri-colour, blue, blue merle and red are becoming better known. Rough CollieBetter known as "Lassie". For all her beauty, the rough Collie is a worker and a dog of great intelligence. She has a friendly disposition, with no trace of nervousness nor agression. The grooming of her glamorous coat can be hard work, by the result is very rewarding. There are three recognised colours:
All of these colours may also have white collar, shirt, legs, feet and tail tip. Smooth CollieThis dog is identical to the rough collie, except that he has a short flat coat. If you are considering buying a Collie Puppy, the Club can advise you as to which breeders have Kennel Union registered dogs available.
